While the display can show two screens, like HDMI input and thunderbolt (!) next to each other, the mac drivers for virtual displays are crap and the feature completely unusable.
If you do any work with a horizontal timeline, like video editing, this thing is amazing. You might get a little dizzy from this giant display at first, but it's nice to have all that breathing space.
It feels a little cheap but once it's set up you forget about that. It's 34" wide, which is like having 2 smaller screens next to each other (next to your Macbook). We also recently added this LG 34um95 (beast) to the studio. Get a mini display port to display port adapter and you're good. Watch out for the cables though, there are reports that HDMI causes issues w/ Mac. Wanted to write a review to help other mac users, I’ve tried other IPS monitors, a Samsung and even the Dell IPS display but have found most monitors lacking when when it goes up against a Mac display. These are the steps to run that patch script and get a display override file in the right place on macOS Mojave. You can read through the forum post for details and check this this patch-edid patch for a Ruby script to make it pretty easy. The fix is to create a display EDID profile to force macOS to use RGB mode. Save any video adapters that came with your MacBook-you may need. The problem can be solved by overriding the EDID data of the display in order to tell OS X that the display only supports RGB. Drag the menu bar from the Mac display to the Dell display in the 'Arrangement' pane if you want to use the Dell as your primary display and have the Mac menus on the external monitor. The reason is that the DisplayPort uses YCbCr colors instead of RGB to drive the display, which limits the range of colors and apparently causes the display to apply some undesired post processing. Many Dell monitors (e.g., U2713H, U2713HM, …) look really bad when connected to a Mac (OS X 10.8.2) via DisplayPort, as if some sharpening or contrast enhancement was applied. Instead it’s more like the screen is running at a much lower than native resolution. After I got my new MacBook Pro M1 at work, I quickly realized that I couldnt connect a second monitor using my regular. This problem with Dell monitors isn’t quite the “fuzzy font” problem you’ll see if you search around (that’s mostly referring to font smoothing or anti-aliasing adjustments which macOS can apply). One of the things I’ve always struggled with in this combination is really poor resolution when the Dell is connected. I’m lucky to have a work-provided MacBook Pro as my primary system along with a pretty nice Dell UltraSharp 30-in monitor at the office.
